compatible with Windows XP.
If not please indicate the particular version and/or
alternative that is compatible with Windows XP.This is more of a Power Builder issue, you'll probably get a better response
in a Power Builder newsgroup!

Posting XMLA to AS from java without msmdpump.dll
Posting the request via HttpURLConnection as below works.
url = new URL("http://localhost//olap/
HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
The question is I'd prefer not to have to require IIS plus the pump to be running on the AS server(msmdpump.dll). We know MS code is sending XMLA to the AS Database.
Why can we not use the same channel? It may not be http but I do not care. I'd rather have minimum stuff to do on the server.
Thanks in advance
Zub
I'd say in this stiuation you are probably better off using HTTP. On windows machine you can use naitive AS client : ADOMD.NET or AS OLEDB, and establish connection using TCP/IP , but coming from outside you will face quite a few problems. Configuring virtual direcory compared to ... for instance trying to figure out how to authenticate your non-windows user if by far easier task.
Hope that helps.

Post method in ASP stops working
window, and I do a request.form to get all my parameters. The first time I
run a report to a new window I am prompted for the windows user name and
password. Once I enter in the login info my report runs fine. Then when I try
to run another report to a new window the request.form doesn't work to pull
things in from my form. Everything is blank, so I get error messages. Another
report will not run until I shutdown IE restart IE log back into my website
and run the report.
My redirect string is
http://Session('sServer')/ReportServer?/Session("sProjectCode")/sReport &
"&rs:Command=render&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rc:Paramaters=False"
Can anyone tell me why the post method or Request.form will only work once
and then I have to restart IE. Again I am opening the report in a new window.

Thanks,
CraigI fixed this by going into IIS and going into the properties on the Reports
and ReportServer Virtual directories and under Directory security enabling
anonymous access.

Possible to Use Windows Authentication on Peer to Peer Network?
instance accross a peer to peer network without a Domain?-- Right. Normally in a domain environment you're authenticated on the
domain and then use those credentials to authenticate to SQL.
If you're not in a domain, then you're in a workgroup.
Workgroup security. To connect to SQL using Windows Authetication, the
NT
username & passwords must match on both computers.
Yes (possible) and no (not recommandable).
-Yes: You can do this by choosing the same username and password on
both computers, the calling computer and the server. If you think now
"Well thats a bit weird...", I can acknowldge. The other possible
solution would be, if you use some programming language wich is able to
handle a security context, like C# with the appropiate classes, you
could impersonate the thread using the remote security context for
connecting.
-No: in common you cannot use integrated authentication across the
computers because the SQL Server can=B4t trust these unknown and
unreliable machines. Therefore a domain should be in place which can
guarantee with the user token for the real permissions of the user.

possible to connect to SQL Server Mobile database
Is it possible to have a Windows applications (based on .NET Framework 2.0) connect to a SQL Server Mobile database?
I manually added the the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll (retrieved from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\\SQL Server\Mobile\v3.0\System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) to my Windows Form project. When I start the app, it gives me an error message:

possible to connect to SQL Server Mobile database
Is it possible to have a Windows applications (based on .NET Framework 2.0) connect to a SQL Server Mobile database?
I manually added the the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll (retrieved from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\\SQL Server\Mobile\v3.0\System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) to my Windows Form project. When I start the app, it gives me an error message:

possible currupt database?
I recently moved a database from a Windows 2000 server (standard)
running SQL 2000 SP3 and placed it on a Windows 2003 server (standard) also
running SQL 2000 SP3. For some weird reason, on our citrix server which is
a BL20P (HP Blade) when my clients access their session and run the
application that is tied into the database that I just moved from one server
to the other, when they are prompted to either cancel or save their work, it
freezes and it doesn't save their work. Prior of moving this database, they
didn't have this problem, the other weird thing is, other people (normal
workstation computers) when they access the same program it works fine and
there are no hang ups. This program is a proprietary program that we use to
issue permits and it's made by HDL companies. I've had no luck with them
because they are pointing figures at me. My question, is it possible that
during the transportation of the database, and could it have been corrupted
during the process? Is there a way to do a consistency check on the
database? Help...
Thank you
Alex AndersonAlex,
Yes, there are tools to do consistency checks. Read about DBCC CHECKDB in
the BOL.
However, if your other non-HDL users are working, then I suspect the
database is probably not corrupted. I would suggest that you recheck the
security issues (grants, usernames, etc) that the HDL documentation should
specify. It may be that an account or account rights got missed during the
move.

Thank you for responding. I have logged in the same user that logs into
citrix where the problem exists on a workstation and that same user doesn't
have the problem. Security I have specified are two groups and there is
another SQL security user but that is for administration purposes. I'll
read up on DBCC and CHECKDB. It's the strangest problem I've ran into, and

Possible back door?
(Windows 2003). Some history of what is going on is that the company is not
happy with their current tech situation and are in the process of getting
rid of their current tech and he knows it. This is where I come in like I
said have been asked to help with this situation. But I'm located at
different location so one of the first things the company wanted me to do is
setup an link between My loction and the other location using the internet.
So my first steps before opening up the the company was to try and secure th
e
system. But what I found is that the current tech is login in to the system
with an account called "sqlagentcmdexec" and on this account there is no
password (In my mind a big problem becauce I think this account was setup
with admin privileges). So when I was checking out the current user list and
their privileges this account in question was not there with all of the othe
r
accounts. I found a coulpe of articles that tells me a little about the
account but not a whole lot. So with all of that in mind what should I try t
o
do? Can I add a password to this account? Can I Find out what the account
privileges are and lower them if the are admin? If it is possible to lower
the account privileges what might be some of the side effects? Could there
be similar hiden accounts on this system and finally what would the best
thing to do in this situation?
Thank you for your time and help! What SQL Server version is used at this company?
I don't think such an account is created in the last two versions of SQL
Server : 2000 and 2005. It might be left from an older SQL Server
installation.
The following KB article has some information on this account:

You could also ask for more information on the SQL Server Tools forum:

find answers about SQL Agent topics there.

during a SQL 7 install for use as the SQL Agent Proxy account. The password
should not be blank and is managed entirely by SQL Server. You can reset
the account password from Enterprise Manager per the article link Laurentiu
provided.
Hope this helps.

Ports to open in Windows Firewall for SQL Server 2005
I want to test an application from another machine but can neither log on nor
use the SQL Server Management Studio from the remote machine unless I turn
off the Windows Firewall on the development machine. (I made sure to enable
remote connections via the Surface Configuration Tool too).
Though I seem to have the correct services listed in the "Exclusions" of the
Windows Firewall, I think that I should probably explicitly open the ports
that SQL Server and the Management Studio use. What are the correct ports or
is there a better way to work through the Windows Firewall. (This problem
should only exist in my development environment because I would not use the
Windows Firewall in a production setting on the Server)

Did you also enable and start the sqlbrowser service?

|||Hi there michael,
If your connecting fine to the database and it accepts data exchange,
perhaps you might look at the database permissions. Rather than any more
ports.
Opening 1433 within the firewall as far as im aware, is all you need for
admin.
Give the test account full sysadmin rights, and try that.

As Grumpy has mentioned, generally 1433 port is enough for connecting to
SQL server database engine. Also, for 2005, you can also try opening the
1434 UDP port since it will be used for establishing linked connection from
other applications. See the following article which describes the

| Hi there michael,
| If your connecting fine to the database and it accepts data exchange,
| perhaps you might look at the database permissions. Rather than any more
| ports.
|
| Opening 1433 within the firewall as far as im aware, is all you need for
| admin.
|
| Give the test account full sysadmin rights, and try that.
|
| regards..

Firewall and you get both connectivity and the ability to remotely
administer. Thanks!
